Course Description
Introduction to Media Arts is a one-year, UC approved, CTE concentration class that satisfies the “G” or “F” High School graduation requirement. The course explores and expands the Visual Arts in a digital age. Introduction to Media Arts lays the foundation for understanding art digital multi-media as a tool for self-expression. Students will explore visual art themes through discussion, reading, and writing as they develop a digital art portfolio. This class introduces students to the capabilities of interactive multimedia and its uses in education, industry and entertainment. Students will review the roles of various types of software applications and experiment with authoring tools to create hands on projects. Students will learn develop an understanding of the meaning and concept of the California Content artistic perception, creative expression, historical and cultural context, aesthetic valuing, and make connections to core courses and their life through the visual arts. The elements and principles of design serve as a foundation for the beginning art student to develop the tools and skills necessary for future study. Students will gain skills and knowledge on traditional art tools as well as be introduced to vector graphic software, image editing software and animation software. Project activities focus on developing effective use of the elements and principles of design through studio experiences and hands on projects. Students culminate the year with a portfolio project in which they reflect on the skills and topics they’ve covered and begin their career exploration to better understand what areas interest them. Students will choose one of the three career paths to continue their studies in the Multimedia Career Academy.
