English 11 and 12 are one year, UC-approved, college preparatory classes. English 11, American Literature, and English 12, British/World Literature are both infused with multimedia through films, PowerPoints, webquests, and more. During 11th grade, students explore historical time periods and literature genres as well as social issues such as juvenile justice and the politics of food. 12th grade students examine several literature forms and subjects, including epic poems, sonnets, newspaper articles, and philosophical and utopian novels. 11th and 12th grade MCA students all work collaboratively and learn across disciplines to create writing products, as well as multimedia projects from PowerPoints to short films.

Leyla Fikes
World History and United States History are general education requirements for high school graduation and college admissions acceptance. Multimedia Careers Academy students take a multimedia approach to history. Students are regularly required to complete written work, such as discussion questions and essays, based on documentaries and films. Historical events and concepts are displayed on PowerPoint presentations for students to take notes on a regular basis. Students must submit projects and create skits, which compels them to utilize the internet as a research engine. By engaging in learning in a multimedia setting students not only bolster their comprehension of World and US History, but also increase their familiarity with and mastery of technology.
