Message from Principal Laurel Fretz
2009-2010
Principal’s Message
Equity is defined in terms of outcome. No two students come to us at the same place. Our job is to ensure that ALL students leave us at a level of competence that fives them a high predictability of success in their next phase of life.
–Mike Neece, Educator
This quotation defines our primary challenge as a school community. As we begin this academic year, I encourage you to reflect on the reasons this school exists and to revisit our collective purpose as educators here at Leuzinger High School.
Teachers make the difference!!!
There are and there will be legitimate concerns about funding, facilities, bell schedules and the level of student preparedness for high school curriculum. However, teachers and the work they do in schools and classrooms make a difference in the academic performance of students. In fact, the classroom teacher is the most significant factor in closing the achievement gap between and among students. Our students benefit greatly from the instruction of the highly qualified, caring teachers.
Expect more, get more!!!
I have noted and research supports that many of our students are greatly affected by their teachers’ expectations and may even regard their teacher’s perception more than their own. Positive teacher expectations are associated with greater student achievement. Teacher attitudes and behaviors can significantly influence the academic achievement of the students in our school community. Resolve to remember the power of the teacher and the importance of having high expectations, setting high standards and having clear, consistent ways for students to meet those standards. All Olympian teachers can have a positive impact on the lives of our students, our community, nation and world. Our students deserve your best!!!
Laurel Fretz, Acting Principal
